ParaGard IUDs

JUSTICE LAW, PERSONAL INJURY LAW FIRM, PLANTATION FLORIDA

The Paragard T380A is a non-hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) contraceptive that provides long-term birth control.  It is designed to be implanted into a woman’s uterus to prevent pregnancy. The device was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1984.  Since then, the FDA has received over 3,200 reports of device breakage and the device has injured many women due to a product defect.  The defect is believed to be both a design and and a manufacturing defect.  The device often breaks upon attempted removal, leading to pieces of the IUD becoming lodged inside of the patient.  The result can be devastating and can cause long-term harm and the need for invasive surgeries to remove the broken IUD. Despite the inherit dangers that this device has been shown to have, the product is still widely available..

Injuries caused by Paragard

There are a number of side-effects and injuries that can occur as a result of the product’s defective nature.  These include:

  • Perforation of the uterus or cervix
  • Infertility
  • Infection
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Inflammations and allergic reactions to IUD pieces left in the body
  • IUD migration
  • IUD pieces missing or lodged in organs
  • Need for surgery such as hysterectomy, laparoscopy or laparotomy.
  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Broken IUD pieces cannot be removed

Quite often, in order to reverse and or treat the issues caused by the defective device, invasive surgeries are required which increases risk and takes away time, money, and energy that could be invested into other parts of a person’s life.
